Ely's Food and Drink Festival - 4th and 5th May 2014 .. an invitation to food traders

The event will consist of a variety of artisan food traders, cookery demonstrations, food trade exhibitions and workshops. All Manor of Events in Henley, outside Ipswich, are holding Christmas in Oz themed parties. This is a really original place to go for the staff Christmas party. Each year the theme is different and we really enjoyed the chance to spend the evening in Oz. The food was very good ( Christmas menu ) and the decor brilliant.

In a city said to have more restaurants per head of population than anywhere in the UK, there is no shortage of foodies. This year at the Edinburgh Festival there are events about the history of dieting, the challenge of food security and how to forage for wild food. One science-based event on sensory dining brings together a scent technician, a linguist, a chemist and a neuroscientist to look at how tweaking our various senses affects our experience of food. It will take the form of a sit-down meal with each of the five courses exploring one of our senses. Food for Thought, a theatre collective, will perform music and drama with their menu 'Dinner is Swerved' at the Edinburgh Fringe from August 3rd - 25th and it's sold out! We have been asked to give this a mention, so here it is. This is the first food and drink festival of its kind to be held at Henham Park Nr Southwold, in the lovely setting of the historic walled garden. Over the two days of the Festival, the aim is to celebrate and publicise the amazing variety of food and drink available in East Anglia. Local, regional and national firms will exhibit and there will be a special children’s activity area. Cookery demonstrations and talks will be held throughout both days and those purchasing food will be able to store their shopping in a chilled store. Next weekend starts a full programme of foodie stuff at the Aldeburgh Festival of Food and Drink, 23rd September to 8th October, including a competition to find Suffolk’s best amateur baker. Adult Classes include ‘Victoria Sandwich’, ‘Fruitcake’, ‘Scones’ and ‘Cupcakes’, with a ‘Best Junior Cake Maker’ class for 10-16 year olds.
Yesterday we headed off to the community event held by USAF Lakenheath to celebrate July 4th. They sure know how to hold an event and cook for the thousands of visitors attending. Not a commercial food outlet in sight, but an amazing selection of foods prepared to raise funds for the various organisations that exist on the base. We ate corn dogs, hot and spicy chicken wings with carrot and celery sticks, smoked brisket with fried pickles, kebab combo of chicken and beef kebabs with corn on the cob and funnel cake with cinnamon sugar. These guys pictured made us chicken fajitas with sour cream and tomato salsa. It was a great family day out with an amazing firework finale. The food just kept on coming, ooh, and yes, there was Aspalls cider in the beer tent.
There will be home-made food a plenty as usual at next weekend's Petta Fiesta. If you haven't got tickets yet you can buy them online, because you won't get many on the gate this time. Head for the Make Do and Mend tent where you can taste everything carrot (just like we had in the war, says Granny) There will be carrot and lentil burgers, carrot cake baked on the spot and the usual Happy Hour but with Harvey Carrotbanger cocktails.
This was full of people on Saturday and ice creams were selling fast. I tried gooseberry and elderflower (Aldercarr) and double cream vanilla (Criterion) Both were fab. I came home with a mutton curry from Jimmy's Farm, eating it now - very spicy and soon to feature on our Dish of the Day. Also tried guessing the four ingredients of the smoothie - I got carrot, ginger, apple, mango - how did I do?
